Review: Amy and Roger's Epic Detour by Morgan Matson

I read this book on Pulse it. For more information go here.

Synopsis:
"Amy Curry thinks her life sucks. Her mom decides to move from California to Connecticut to start anew--just in time for Amy's senior year. Her dad recently died in a car accident. So Amy embarks on a road trip to escape from it all, driving cross-country from the home she's always known toward her new life. Joining Amy on the road trip is Roger, the son of Amy's mother's old friend. Amy hasn't seen him in years, and she is less than thrilled to be driving across the country with a guy she barely knows. So she's surprised to find that she is developing a crush on him. At the same time, she's coming to terms with her father's death and how to put her own life back together after the accident. Told in traditional narrative as well as scraps from the road--diner napkins, motel receipts, postcards--this is the story of one girl's journey to find herself." (from goodreads.com)

The Good:
I will start off by saying this book was very original. I was never bored with this book and it made me want to keep reading. I love that they were going on an adventure with no clue what was going to happen. Amy and Roger were both very well developed characters. I loved them so much. This book is funny when it needs to be even though it has very sad topics in the book. Also, this book has fun things in it like maps, pictures, play lists, and much more. All of that extra stuff added makes a lot more interesting.

The Bad:
Honestly, there isn't many bad things I can say about this book. I wish the ended wasn't so rushed and you found out what happened  to Amy and Roger. I feel like the book wasn't really finished.

Overall:
This book is very good and I definitely recommend it.

  1. I could have gone on a MUCH longer road trip with Amy & Roger. I tried so hard not to finish this one as fast as I did, but it obviously didn't work. *here is where the IDEA of gushing goes so no one actually has to read it; about: visual extras! the trip! amy! roger!* Definitely in my top ten (or more like five) of 2010. Morgan Matson, write more books soon, please?
